The Stapleton School's curriculum begins by introducing the preschooler to the delights of creative imagery and playacting through basic local motor movement and music. As the student advances in age and skill the emphasis shifts to body placement and carriage, careful technical development, and a strong focus on individual style and character. At this level the students are introduced to the performance element of the dance through a variety of staged productions. When the student has attained sufficient proficiency and has gained the necessary physical strength, the scope of their instruction may expand to include pointe work for girls, more dynamic movement for boys, partnering classes, and enhancement of performance ability.
In 2000, the Stapleton School created the Stapleton Youth Company to allow advanced students to continue their study in a semi-professional environment. The program intensifies and accelerates the students' technical training, provides more performance opportunities, and educates and trains students in the technical aspects of stage production.
The Stapleton School strives to assure that every student leaves the school with a love of dance, and if desired, the technical skills and performance ability required for success in the professional dance arena, or at the collegiate level.
